Birds of Prey

Lives, Habitats & Pictures of the Birds of Prey

A Merlin and an American Kestrel challenging one another over territory on Amherst Island, near Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Welcome to Birds of Prey, a library consisting of individual pictures and a summary of some of the North American birds of prey, native to the continent or have at one time or another, shown up as a vagrant. Birds such as the condor,eagles, falcons,Harrier, hawks, osprey, shrikes, vultures and more.

The members of the Birds of Prey consist of the mighty California Condor, an endangered species, struggling to survive on a continent, where its habitat is shrinking and man-made obstructions are the leading causes to its survival. The powerful eagles and the swift falcons, are once more becoming a frequent sight over our rivers and mountains. The vultures, lesser thought about birds, the Turkey Vulture, which is expanding its range into the North. All the small birds and those who mostly hunt at night and remain unseen in daylight hours, such as the owls. Those birds who live in the canopy of the forests and the isolated northern regions.

Below is a list of bird groups and the number of species in each family, that lives or has been identified as visiting North America. Images of these birds can be seen further down;
